I CAN ROLL OVER!

When, I blogged yesterday for Jake's 3 month birthday, I knew he was close to rolling over, but I didn't realize he would do it so soon! This morning at about 7:45, Jake rolled over for the first time! I got to the camera just in time to catch it...I was so excited!!! He rolled from his back over his left side to his tummy! He did it again a few minutes later and I got that one on camera too. I was sad that Stephen missed it, but we were meeting him for lunch today at school today so I took the video so he could see it. I waited to post the videos so that Stephen could be the first one to see it :-)

(Sorry, for the angle on the video...I keep forgetting that if I hold the camera vertically, there isn't a way to flip the video...or if there is, I don't know how to)

I'm 3 Months Old!!!

Stephen and I can't believe our little man is already 3 months old! Our lives have changed so much in such a short time, but we honestly can't remember what our lives were like before him. We are so blessed to have such a good baby! He has grown so much in the past 3 months and can do so many things. Here is a list of all of Jake's accomplishments over the past months:

Developmental Milestones:

*hold head 90 degrees off the ground during tummy time, pushes chest up most of the time

*brings his hands together

*smiles, laughs, coos, growls, and his new favorite "ahh" sound

*follows large and small objects from side to side

*grasps toys, blankets, and mommy's hair :-)

*bats at toys on activity mat and bouncy seat

*can hold head steady

*he can sit on the couch
*bears weight on his legs when held upright

*turns in direction of mommy and daddy's voices

*pulls legs up to stomach when laying on back

*sleeps through the night (10 hrs minimum) in his nursery

*drools, constantly!

*can scoot on tummy

Appearance:

*still his daddy's mini-me, they even have the same "thinkin' face"

*his eyes are GORGEOUS! Light blue with a dark blue rim, we get compliments on them all the time

*he's still a big boy! On Sunday at the doctor's office he was 16 lbs!

Favorite Things:

*loves his jumparoos

*bathtime, especially kicking his legs in the water and splashing

*window blinds...we still can't figure out why!

*watching football on tv

*watching paula dean on tv

*being outside!...especially for walks and football games

*being bounced on laps while you play with his arms and legs

*music...any toys with music, music channels on the tv, he's even "sang" along in the car with me

*mouth noises...lips smacking, tounge clicking, all that good stuff will get a big coo and smile

*his new favorite toys: his blue snuggy puppy and a spinny toy that has colorful little balls in it

*looking at himself in the mirror and talking to his reflection

*helping mommy cook in the kitchen...well, he watches mostly while I talk to him

Dislikes:

*his swing...he'll sit in it for a few minutes, but that's it...he is not a fan!

*bumbo seat...he's still a little young for it, but i've tried twice and he screams within 30 seconds

Skills we are working on:

*Rolling over...he is SO close! He can roll up onto his side and get his legs over, but he doesn't know how to get over his arm, and it frustrates him A LOT!

Cooing

Over the past several days, Jake has started cooing, little ones at first, but now he really gets going! It is the cutest thing! I have been trying to catch it on camera ever since he started, but was never able to really capture a good one. Finally, yesterday I did. He still focuses on the camera when he sees it, so I had to hide it off to the side again :-)

MY LITTLE MORNING BOY!

Jake is becoming quite the little "morning child!" He loves to wake his mommy up early, ready to play and start the day! Unfortunatley, I am so NOT a morning person! My mom will tell you differently, that when I was little I was up at the crack of dawn ready to eat and start my day...which was true then, so I'm sure she will think it is funny how my son is now paying me back for getting her up so early :-) Jake had been sleeping until 7:30, and some glorious days, even 8:30. However, about 2 weeks ago jake started getting tired earlier in the evening. We moved his bedtime up an hour, and ever since Jake has been waking up between 5:00 and 6:00 in the morning! If it's 5:00, he will take a bottle and go back to sleep...if it's 6:00 he eats and we are up! He only stays up for about an hour and a half and then we got back to sleep, but it is a long hour and half for me!

Here is a video I took yesterday...it's dark because the sun still isn't up yet! But Jake has started grasping his toys and playing with them, so I had to catch it on video.

Jake is also working on cooing, he has done it just a couple of times so far. I'm working hard on catching it on video, but whenever I get the camera out...he is so fascinated by it, that he stops doing whatever I was trying to catch on video! So I kind of had the camera hid from him on this one, thus, the funny angle. He coos just a little bit in the beginning, listen carefully :-)

JAKE GOES TO HIS FIRST FOOTBALL GAME

Tonight, Jake finally got to go to his first football game. It has done nothing but rain for the past week, so we weren't able to go to Mesquite or Plano West's first varsity games. Tonight was just a scrimmage, but the sun was finally out so Jake and I packed up and went to the game! He loved it! I wasn't too surprised because he loves it so much on tv. He got a little fussy as it got closer to bedtime, but he was surrounded by grandparents, uncle dave, and cousin mia to keep him entertained. At the end of the game I took him down to the sidelines and he got to break the huddle and walk off the field with Daddy and the team!

NEW THINGS AND COWBOYS!

Jake loves the jumparoo that i bought at a consignment sale so much that we decided to upgrade to a "fancier" version. My friend Leanne has this one and I knew Jake would love it, it allows him to turn himself 360 degrees. He can't quite do that yet, but he loves this one even more than his old one!

Jake has started 2 new things this past week. One is chewing on his hand/fingers. He doesn't suck his thumb, he keeps that tucked in under his fingers. He has started drooling more as well, we are beginning to wonder if he is going to be teething in the near future.


This is the other skill Jake is working on, rolling over. He can get himself from his back up onto his side and I know it's just a matter of time before he makes it all the way over. We watch him on the monitor in his crib and he's almost done it a few times in his crib! That makes me a little nervous, but I know other friends' babies started sleeping on their tummies once the rolled over so I'm not as nervous.

JAKE'S FIRST COWBOYS GAME!!! Since all the others had been night games, this was the first game Jake was awake to watch. I've already blogged about how much Jake already loves to watch football on TV. This game was no exception. He was very frustrated with me when I took these pictures because I was blocking his view of the TV!

LOTS OF MILESTONES!

Over the past few days, Jake has achieved several milestones! It feels like he is growing and changing so fast lately, I can barely keep up with it all on the blog! Over Labor Day weekend Jacob started laughing, it is the cutest thing! Things that make him laugh: tickling his stomach or underarms, sticking your tounge out at him when he sticks his out first, playfully growling. Right now he is chuckling mostly, I can't wait for the big laughs to start :-) I've caught a few on video, check it out at the bottom of the post.

During tummy time, Jake has started "scooting" across the blanket. Over the past 2 weeks he would scoot himself forward if we put our hands behind his feet for him to push off of. Yesterday, during tummy time he started scooting on his own. He has finally figured out how to plant his toes and push off. Obviously, he isn't getting very far right now...probably because he tries to do it while face down on the blanket! But, I know once he gets older and stronger, crawling is going to come fast! We have video of this too at the bottom of the post.

Jake is also officially all moved in to his room! He spent the first night in his crib on Saturday night. It was so easy! We just followed our usual bedtime routine, except it ended in his crib upstairs instead of in his pack-n-play in our room. He slept the whole night! I, on the other hand, was up watching the monitor all night long! I was so anxious about my little guy being upstairs by himself all night. I kept wanting to go up and check on him in person, but I didn't. I was so proud of him! He's been in his room for 4 nights now, it's like it's where he's always slept. I'm not going to lie, it's really nice to have our room back!

Lastly, Jake had his 2 month check-up yesterday. In the words of our pediatrician, he's a "perfect little baby!" He is achieving all developmental milestones on pace. He is going to be a big guy when he gets all grown up! He is still in the 90% for height and weight...he is 25 inches long and 15 lbs 4 oz...so he's pretty much doubled his birth weight and is 4 inches longer than when he was born! Just more ways he doesn't take after mommy :-) He also got his first shots...he got 3 shots, for a total of 5 vaccines. That was the hardest thing I have had to do as a mommy so far!!! Shot days are not fun!!! He was very brave and spent most of the day napping, with a few fussy spells.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND

We started off Labor Day weekend at a cook-out at "Aunt Christy and Uncle Daniel's" house. Christy was my college roommate and her family is practically my own, her mom and dad have been my "texas parents" since college. I was looking forward to a fun evening and Jake's first swim in the pool. Well, that didn't quite happen! Stephen wound up working late so I went over by myself with Jake. He did pretty good and then came nap time...he refused to sleep, there was just too much excitement going on. He had the biggest meltdown we have had yet! It was awful! So, after about 20 min of trying to calm him down, I decided we would just head on home...at least I got to eat, and memaw packed up my banana pudding to go!

Labor Day weekend also marked the start of college football season, which we love in the Tyler house! Our favorites are the University of Texas, Notre Dame, and Ole Miss! After Jake finally got a nap and Daddy came home...the boys settled in to watch a game. Jake is fascinated by football already! We were watching Oklahoma vs. BYU...and the Sooners lost! :-) Jake was talking to the TV, it was too cute. I guess he is already calling plays like his Daddy! I grabbed the camera, but of course he started getting fussy so I didn't get it caught on video!

On Sunday, we headed to Grandpa and Granna's house. Uncle Dave, Aunt Paige, and cousin Mia were going over too. We went out to eat lunch and spent the afternoon playing in the park across the street from the house. It was a fun day with the family!

Jake also has started laughing, just little laughs here and there...but I can't catch them on video yet!!! This was an attempt this morning, Daddy and Jake were playing peek-a-boo. He didn't laugh, but we caught lots of big smiles!!!

WE LOVE THE JUMPAROO!

2 weeks ago I bought a jumparoo at a consignment sale. I didn't think we'd be using it for a while still, but Jake is holding is head up so well, I thought we'd go ahead and give it a try. Well, Jake LOVES it! He doesn't jump in it quite yet, but his feet do touch the ground and he can move around in it enough to activite the music and lights. The jumparoo has changed our lives :-) I can now shower, do my hair, and make-up while he occupies himself. I have also started putting it in the kitchen while I cook dinner and he loves that! I narrate what I am doing as I cook and his eyes follow me all over the kitchen, I'm his own personal Rachel Ray :-) I can't believe our little guy is getting so big! He loves it so much that we went ahead an ordered a "fancier" one that will let him move in 360 degrees...can't wait to see what he thinks of it!
