Dinosaur World

We didn't have much planned for Spring Break this year, just hoped to get out and enjoy the sunshine around the DFW area.  What was supposed to be a warm and sunny week turned into rain and clouds almost every day.  We took advantage of one rain-free day to surprise Jake.  We were originally thinking a trip to the Dallas Zoo would be fun.  Once we woke up that morning, Stephen and I decided to use a little of the boys leftover Christmas money to surprise Jake with a trip to Dinosaur World, about 2 hours away in Glen Rose.  We went when he was 3, but since he is currently dinosaur OBSESSED, we knew it would be extra fun.

Here he is, thinking we are off to the zoo.
Almost an hour and half later, he finally asked if we were getting close to the zoo...here is his face when we told him where we were really going :)
We got to Glen Rose around lunchtime and made a stop at one of the best bbq places, Hammonds BBQ.  It is seriously and ridiculously awesome.  Cody was his usual happy self, despite staying awake for the entire trip down.

 Sweet tea!
Cody's 1st bbq!  He chowed down on my smoked turkey and some green beans.  Yum!

Stephen was in meat heaven.
 Me too!
My most favorite dessert on the planet, blackberry cobbler with ice cream.  I gave Cody a tiny bite, he was a fan.
 Next stop, DINOSAUR WORLD!

Cody fell asleep in the car on the 5 minute drive from Hammonds to Dinosaur World.  I thought he would go back to sleep while we walked around the park, but he stayed up and happy.   Guess he just needed a power nap.

 T Rex

I kept waiting for this one to fall asleep, but he was up and happy the entire time.
Jake and Stephen explored the museum while Cody and I took a snack break.

They have added a new 'mining' area since we were there last.  With Jake's entry he got a bag of dirt/gems/geodes to sift out and keep.

And of course we couldn't leave without doing the Fossil Dig
This one was finally getting sleepy.
Fossil Dig:  you could 'dig' up as many fossils as you wanted, but could only keep your 3 favorite.

A few final dino poses and we were on the road back to Dallas

Cody slept most of the way home and this guy was super happy after such a fun day.
